Call for Nominations

The EuroBIC Medal is a prestigious award presented biannually at the European Biological Inorganic Chemistry Conference (EuroBIC). It recognizes outstanding young scientists conducting innovative research in Bioinorganic Chemistry within European laboratories, and who actively contribute to the European Bioinorganic Chemistry community.

Eligibility

  • Candidates must have obtained their Ph.D. no more than 15 years ("net academic age") before the nomination deadline (January 3, 2026).

  • Career breaks (such as parental or adoption leave, family commitments, illness, or other extraordinary circumstances) are acknowledged in line with European funding agency guidelines.

  • Applicants should have participated in at least two of the last three EuroBIC conferences.

Award Details

The recipient will be invited to give a plenary lecture at the next EuroBIC conference. Applications from individuals whose careers have included interruptions are strongly encouraged. The selection committee will consider achievements relative to net academic age to ensure fair assessment.

Application/Nomination Procedure

Nominations or applications should be submitted electronically to the current EuroBIC secretary, Eva Freisinger. Please include the following documents:

  • A nomination or application letter (max. 2 pages) outlining the candidate’s achievements and contributions to the European Bioinorganic Chemistry community.

  • Curriculum vitae (max. 2 pages) and a complete list of publications.

  • PDF copies of the three most significant publications supporting the nomination/application.

  • Two letters of support from established researchers in the field.

Self-nominations are welcome.

Deadline

The deadline for nominations for the EuroBIC Medal 2026 is January 3, 2026.

Selection Committee

The committee consists of 6–8 members, including 2–3 previous medal winners and 4–5 senior European Bioinorganic Chemists with diverse expertise and nationalities. The EuroBIC secretary organizes the selection process but does not participate in the voting.
